The old traditions of viticulture and vinification have been slow to change in Spain. Rioja always first comes to mind when thinking of Spain and it’s had an interesting recent life history. One minute it was immensely popular the next, it’s out of fashion but now it’s back in again.
This is largely due to a vast investment and a rethink as to how the wines are presented. An enormous effort has taken place to combine the best of the old with a more modern interesting style.
One place where this really seems to have worked is Bodegas Altanza. Located at Fuenmayor at the heart of the Rioja it’s surrounded by tempranillo vineyards.
Two stunning wines are:
Lealtanza (Loyalty) Artistas Espanoles Reserva Miro 2001 and
Lealtanza Artistas Espanoles Reserva Dali 2004.
