So much wine … too little time

South Africa

South Africa is showing big growth in wine sales and choice and its all happened quickly and recently. There are 600 wine producers in the Cape today compared to half this number in 2000. It’s amazing how the wine business moves with the social and political fortunes of a country.  Although wine has been produced in South Africa for over 350 years, it’s still classed as new world. Old world France, Germany and Italy has merged with an acute awareness of what today’s market seeks.

The organisation Wines of South Africa has chosen Hannuwa as its creed, an ancient word describing the gathering of good fortune through living in sustainable harmony with the environment.

Cool wet winters and warm dry summers give a Mediterranean style climate ideally suited to winegrowing.

Stellenbosch is seen as the capital of the SA wine making world and from there we make up most of our collection.

Warwick Estate’s Three Cape Ladies is one of our favourites. Also wines from the Hamilton Russell vineyards and Eaglevlei.
